How to get to Murcia
Location and Limits
The Autonomous Community of Murcia is located in the Southeast
of the Iberian Penninsula. It covers a total surface area of 11,314
km2, accounting for 2.2% of the national territory. Located in the
heart of the Mediterranean Arch, it borders Alicante to the East,
Granada and Almeria to the West, and Albacete to the North and the
Mediterranean Sea to the South.
Access by road:
The Autonomous Community of Murcia is connected to other Spanish
regions by a comprehensive road network.
Murcia can be reached from the "Meseta" (Castillian plateau)
region by car along the N-301 Madrid-Cartagena road, a motorway
that provides access to the Region of Murcia. To the east runs the
A-7 Mediterranean Highway, which comes from Alicante. To the south
the N-340 motorway links Murcia with Almeria along the A-7 and Seville
via Granada to the west along the N-342 motorway. The N-332 Cartagena-La
Manga-Alicante motoroway.
Access by train:
The railway network in the region consists in 300 kilometres of
track, with links to the main Spanish cities - Madrid and Barcelona
- with high-speed trains running everyday. A narrow-track train
also connects Cartagena with the Mar Menor region.
Access by aeroplane:
Air communications are provided by the airports of San Javier and
El Altet (Alicante), from where there are daily flights to ten Spanish
regional capitals and at least six foreign capitals, with the possibility
of changing flight to any other destination in the world. In this
connection, it is worth highlighting the large number of charter
flights from many different European countries, including some Eastern
European countries.
